Therapy for stressed business people

Sometimes we feel as though we’re in the wellbeing business.  When the tech isn’t behaving the stress levels rise.

The minute your IT stops performing – it can feel like the world is falling apart!  Especially if it’s right when you have a critical tender or proposal to get out – or you’re trying to check stock to place an order that will come in before you run out completely.

It doesn’t have to be a complete breakdown; just a computer that is crawling like a snail can raise the blood pressure and another cup of caffeine doesn’t help.

Even though we’ve said it thousands of times, we often find that a slow computer is simply a matter of it needing a restart.  It’s surprising how many people have equipment that is not running, but staggering slowly along – and they haven’t restarted their machine for more than three weeks.

Get the habit of turning your computer off at the end of your day – or, at the very least, at the end of your week.

Help!

We get cries for help every day with a wide range of problems that are stopping the technology doing its job.  Mostly we can fix it remotely – like the one this morning, where a call for help was logged at 8.40am and we logged in remotely and had everything fixed and back online by ten past nine.

Sometimes it isn’t as simple as that.  A client called to tell us that he’d lost half his network.  His network covered two buildings and when we logged into the router we could only see one building’s devices.  This isn’t something we could fix remotely, so we jumped in the van and an hour later we were checking to see if a rodent had chewed through a cable or it had been damaged some other way.

A quick check revealed that the problem was a port failure on the router.  To be fair, it was quite an old piece of equipment and, after a short conversation, the client agreed that a new router was needed and we ordered it.

We’ve had grateful feedback from both these clients.  Both were stressed when the problem occurred.  It’s only when problems occur that people realise how vulnerable they are – and begin to see what happens if their IT doesn’t work.  How much their business is impacted, in terms of time wasted, potential business lost and the cost of just not being able to function.  Make sure you are covered for all the things that could damage your business (check out our free report: 10 things every business owner should know about tech security)

Tip of the month

If you have a new team member, let us know well before they start, so all their tech is set up, log in and access created and their equipment is set up ready to hit the ground running.  No tech = no work!!
